Organizational Context
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is offering a full-time internship within the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) Section of the Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) under the Division of External Relations at UNHCR Copenhagen.

Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP)
PSP functions as UNHCR’s extended arm to engage the private sector, which includes corporations, foundations, high net worth individuals, and individual donors. This service raises essential funds and seeks support beyond mere funding, aiming to develop long-lasting holistic partnerships that offer advocacy, visibility, expertise, innovation, and public engagement.
Private Partnerships and Philanthropy Section (PPH)
The PPH Section within PSP focuses on establishing and strengthening long-term relationships with corporations, foundations, and private philanthropists. PPH colleagues secure funding for UNHCR programs and projects and leverage these relationships to bring various forms of support to UNHCR and those it serves.
The Position
Under the mentorship of the Senior Strategic Planning and Coordination Officer, the intern will be closely guided and supervised. A comprehensive induction process will ensure the intern rapidly becomes a valuable team member. This position is within the Strategic Planning and Coordination unit, a multifunctional team reporting to the Chief of the PPH section. The unit covers:
- PPH Strategic Planning and Resource Allocation
- Coordination of UNHCR’s Attendance at High-Level Events
- Data Analysis on PPH Partnerships
- Unit’s Finance and Budget
- Digital Infrastructure and Capacity Building Solutions
Duties and Responsibilities
Data, Tools, and Analysis
- Support the data analyst in initiatives to validate data, suggest improvements, and document the PSP system architecture and databases.
- Assist in reviewing and enhancing internal analytics tools and PSP tools for PPH donors’ fundraising practices.
- Contribute to developing PPH analytics, business intelligence solutions, and theoretical frameworks.
- Analyze internal financial and operational data to identify patterns and trends, and provide critical inputs for bridging requirement gaps.
- Conduct research and analysis on private sector engagement, developing PowerPoint presentations to share findings and insights.
Capacity Building, Cross-Functional Coordination, and Communication
- Aid projects that enhance PPH data and digital infrastructure.
- Collaborate in promoting the roll-out of analytics and business intelligence solutions and other capacity-building initiatives.
- Provide inputs on miscellaneous items related to finance and events as required.

Eligibility
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be a recent graduate (within two years of application) or a current student in an accredited undergraduate/graduate program.
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field.
- Candidates with immediate family members in UNHCR are not eligible.
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Office, primarily Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, team-player, organized, and initiative-driven.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and show a genuine desire to learn, develop, and adapt.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in Business Administration, Political Science/International Relations, Finance, or related field.
- Experience with Google Big Query and Microsoft PowerBI.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Multi-tasking and time management skills.
- Fluency in additional UN languages is a plus.
Location and Conditions
The successful candidate will be based at UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark, with potential for remote work. The internship lasts six months, extendable to eight months, starting 1 July 2024. Working hours are 8.30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday (40 hours/week), with a possibility for part-time work initially.
Shortlisted candidates may take a written test. There are no application fees. Non-EU candidates must obtain a D-visa for Denmark travel, possibly requiring up to eight weeks. The office provides visa-related assistance.
Allowance: Interns without external financial support will receive an allowance covering food, local transportation, and living expenses. UNHCR reimburses travel costs unless provided by sponsoring entities.
