Job Description:

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer will work within a mental health case management model using a biopsychosocial, multidisciplinary, and integrated approach at the One-Stop Center (OSC). As part of the GBV Prevention Team, the MHPSS Officer will provide mental health case management sessions, services, supervision, and technical support at the assigned hospital. Key responsibilities include overseeing the mental health and psychosocial components of the GBV Program, conducting MH case consultations, and mentoring and supervising mhGAP-HIG trained health workers at designated health facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mental health case consultations in collaboration with the OSC team.
  • Develop culturally appropriate psychosocial activities, including social support activities targeting beneficiaries at the OSC. This includes training in psychological first aid, designing holistic recreational, vocational, and social activities, developing materials for awareness campaigns, and organizing awareness sessions.
  • Collaborate with various sectors (health, legal, education, protection, nutrition, etc.) and other stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of mental health and psychosocial support measures within emergency response plans.
  • Provide culturally appropriate counseling services to individuals with mental health conditions, those experiencing psychosocial challenges, and GBV survivors, adhering to professional ethics and best practices.
  • Enhance the capacity of the OSC team in providing psychosocial support (PSS) and referrals.
  • Integrate MHPSS services with other sectors to ensure comprehensive care for those suffering from mental health conditions.
  • Compile information, prepare reports, and submit them to the program manager in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies, both local and international, and with relevant government bodies.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Experience: Three or more years of experience in designing and implementing mental health and psychosocial programs in a one-stop center. Knowledge of international technical guidelines and standards, such as the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) is essential. Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem-solving.
  • Education and Training: Trained in MHPSS interventions (e.g., GPM+, SH+, PFA, mhGAP, SEL, PSE).
  • Work Environment: Frequent travel to project sites is required.
  • Physical Requirements: Based at assigned districts.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in written and spoken English and local languages.
