The Role of Gender and Policy Coordinator

The Gender and Policy Coordinator is part of the team responsible for CARE International’s (CI) global governance, policy management, and organizational accountability. This position will specifically focus on broad policy development, covering a wide variety of policy topics, as well as facilitating the implementation of CARE International’s Gender Equality and Inclusion Policy across the CARE confederation. This role supports CARE Members and Affiliates in fulfilling their commitments to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Policy, Governance, and Accountability
  • Maintain the Policy Governance Framework and associated guidance according to internal requirements and policy best practices.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies related to gender equality and inclusion.
  • Ensure compliance with global standards and best practices in policy governance.
  • Provide strategic advice on policy development and implementation to senior management.
  • Regularly review and update policies to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
  1. Support Processes for Gender Equality and Inclusion
  • Develop and disseminate gender equality and inclusion tools and resources.
  • Facilitate learning and capacity development activities related to gender equality and inclusion.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of gender equality and inclusion initiatives.
  • Support accountability mechanisms to ensure that gender equality and inclusion commitments are met.
  1. Coordinate and Support the CI Gender Network
  • Serve as a focal point for the CI Gender Network, providing guidance and support to network members.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration within the network to drive the implementation of the CI Gender Equality and Inclusion Policy.
  • Organize and lead regular meetings, workshops, and training sessions for network members.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned within the network to enhance overall effectiveness.
  1. Promote a Culture of Learning and Adaptation
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within CARE International.
  • Encourage diverse representation and ensure that voices from across the organization and external actors are heard.
  • Create a climate of trust and inclusion where all staff feel valued and respected.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote inclusive leadership and decision-making.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual who is passionate about gender equality and has the skills and experience to drive policy development and implementation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gender studies, social sciences, public policy, or a related field, and at least five years of experience in a similar role.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, social sciences, public policy, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in gender equality, policy development, or a related area.
  • Strong knowledge of gender equality and inclusion principles and best practices.
  • Experience in policy development, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in gender studies, social sciences, public policy, or a related field.
  • Experience working in an international NGO or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of international development and humanitarian issues.
  • Experience in capacity development and training.
  • Proficiency in another language (French, Spanish, or Arabic).
