About GIZ and the Global Project

GIZ is dedicated to working on sustainable development by partnering with organizations worldwide. With a mission to improve international trade efficiency and sustainability, the global project “Partnerships for Sustainable Trade” offers a unique opportunity to contribute to reducing barriers and facilitating smooth trade operations through innovative digital solutions. By supporting developing countries in navigating cross-border trade, the project is aligned with the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement, as well as regional trade agreements like the Pan-African Free Trade Area.

The project, funded by the EU, aims to reduce costs, resource consumption, and CO2 emissions in international trade. As a Junior Project Manager, you will be part of this impactful initiative, working closely with public and private partners to create more efficient, transparent, and sustainable trade systems.

Your Responsibilities

As a Junior Project Manager, you will play an essential role in supporting the development, implementation, and management of the project. Your key responsibilities will include:

1. Support in Project Development and Implementation:
   You will provide both content and organizational support in the development and conceptualization of new projects focused on trade and customs topics. Working alongside public and private partners, you will help shape these initiatives into actionable projects.
2. Project Management Support:
   Your work will include monitoring project progress, reporting on milestones, managing budgets, and ensuring activities are executed on time. You will also assist in managing the knowledge and information systems related to the project.
3. Monitoring and Reporting:
   You will contribute to maintaining and enhancing the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system. This includes collecting and providing data for internal and external inquiries, reporting progress to donors like the EU, BMZ, and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation.
4. Stakeholder Communication:
   Active communication with project partners, stakeholders, and donors is vital for keeping everyone informed and aligned. You will work closely with the project managers to keep partners updated on the project concept and ongoing progress.
5. Networking and Coordination:
   Collaborating with other programs and departments within GIZ, you will network with stakeholders to integrate current topics like circular economy into trade facilitation initiatives.
6. Event and Workshop Organization:
   You will also support the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation in organizing external events and internal workshops, helping to foster networking and knowledge sharing among stakeholders.

Your Profile

To excel in this position, GIZ is seeking candidates who meet the following qualifications:

• Educational Background:
  A Master’s degree in Political Science, Economics, Logistics, International Trade, Digital Sciences, or a related field.
• Experience:
  Experience or internships in project management, particularly with a focus on EU projects or international trade. Some prior exposure to topics such as customs, trade facilitation, or digitalization will be a significant advantage.
• Digital Competence:
  A good understanding of digital solutions like blockchain and artificial intelligence is highly desirable. Additionally, knowledge of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis will be beneficial.
• Communication Skills:
  The ability to present complex topics clearly and confidently, whether in written reports or during presentations, is essential.
• Language Skills:
  You must be fluent in German, English, and French. Additional language skills, such as Spanish, are advantageous.
• Personal Attributes:
  A structured work style, strong analytical skills, and organizational talent are essential for success in this role. You should be independent and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
