Key Responsibilities

The Gender Research and Data Specialist will lead efforts in designing, conducting, and analyzing research on gender equality issues. Reporting to the Director of the Centre, with technical guidance from the Gender Statistics Specialist at the Regional Office, you will:

1. Conduct Research and Data Analysis on Gender Equality

  • Develop and implement a research strategy that aligns with the UN Women Centre’s workplan.
  • Carry out qualitative and quantitative research to assess the state of gender equality in Asia and beyond.
  • Analyze gender-disaggregated data and develop key insights that support global policy changes.
  • Publish high-quality reports, policy briefs, and white papers.
  • Collaborate with UN Women’s regional and global offices to ensure data consistency and accuracy.

2. Strengthen Gender Data and Statistics Capacity

  • Train government agencies, researchers, and stakeholders on gender statistics methodologies.
  • Develop training materials and toolkits on gender data collection and analysis.
  • Provide technical support to ensure research methodologies align with international statistical standards.

3. Foster Strategic Partnerships

  • Engage with government institutions, UN agencies, and research organizations to enhance data-driven policy-making.
  • Strengthen collaborations with regional networks and expert groups working on gender research.
  • Represent UN Women at international conferences, forums, and policy discussions.

4. Knowledge Management and Dissemination

  • Develop innovative tools to improve the accessibility and usability of gender research findings.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned to advance gender-responsive policies.
  • Ensure findings are widely disseminated through digital platforms, conferences, and media engagements.

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

Education

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, Economics, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree combined with two additional years of experience may be considered.
  • A certification in Project/Programme Management is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in research, policy analysis, and gender statistics.
  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Strong proficiency in statistical software such as STATA, R, Python.
  • Experience in liaising with government agencies, international organizations, or research institutions.
  • Previous work experience in the UN System is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of gender issues in Asia and the Pacific region is preferred.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Korean is an asset.
  • Proficiency in another UN language (French, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, or Russian) is desirable.
