The Office of the Ombudsman for United Nations Funds and Programmes serves as an independent, confidential, and neutral entity that helps resolve disputes for UN personnel. Operating as part of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services (UNOMS), the office ensures fairness and impartiality in conflict management within the UN system.
The Consultancy Opportunity
UNDP is looking for a highly skilled Conflict Resolution Consultant to enhance its dispute resolution services. The consultant will provide conflict management expertise, facilitate informal resolutions, and promote peaceful workplace interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide professional conflict management services to staff members and non-staff personnel.
- Facilitate informal dispute resolution to maintain workplace harmony.
- Develop and deliver presentations and training sessions to raise awareness about conflict resolution practices.
- Support field offices as needed, including occasional travel to UNDP locations.
- Offer neutral and confidential mediation to resolve workplace issues.

- Advanced university degree (Masterβs or PhD) in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Human Resources, Law, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in conflict prevention and management.
- Training and prior experience in ombudsman services are required.
- Experience working in an ombudsman office within a large organization is an asset.
- Fluency in English is required, along with proficiency in either French or Spanish.
- Familiarity with United Nations frameworks is a plus.
- Ability to work across different time zones is necessary, with a preference for candidates based in Europe.
Additional Considerations
- Experience working within the UN system is a strong asset.
- Working knowledge of another UN language is beneficial.
- The consultant should be available for flexible working hours, considering time zone differences.
