Main Responsibilities

As the Programme Director for Marketing and Communications, you will manage a large, multidisciplinary communications and marketing team of over 40 professionals. Your leadership will be crucial in shaping and executing Amnesty’s global strategy. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead a Global Team: Inspire, manage, and mentor a diverse team of marketing and communications professionals across multiple regions. Foster a collaborative, innovative environment that prioritizes creative solutions and efficiency.

  • Develop Strategic Direction: Create and implement a comprehensive Global Communications and Marketing strategy that aligns with Amnesty’s mission. This strategy will focus on ensuring that messaging is consistent, impactful, and resonates with a broad audience. You will also ensure that communications are aligned with Amnesty’s advocacy and fundraising goals, with an emphasis on audience engagement and digital innovation.

  • Drive Digital Innovation: Lead digital engagement initiatives, ensuring that social media, email marketing, website content, and digital campaigns contribute to Amnesty’s overall objectives. You will leverage new digital tools and strategies to amplify Amnesty’s global reach and impact.

  • Support Media Relations: Work closely with the Global News and Media team to enhance Amnesty’s media presence and raise awareness about key human rights issues. You will manage reputational risks, ensuring that Amnesty’s message is consistent and strategically positioned in the media worldwide.

  • Brand Management: Take ownership of Amnesty’s global brand, ensuring that its visual, editorial, and audio-visual content reflects the organization’s mission and resonates with audiences globally. You will lead efforts to create compelling narratives and storytelling that support Amnesty’s core human rights work.

  • Senior Management Collaboration: As part of the senior management team at Amnesty’s International Secretariat, you will collaborate with the Senior Director for Marketing, Engagement, and Partnerships. Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • A Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is required. A background in human rights, political science, or global studies would be an advantage.

  • Certifications in strategic communications, digital marketing, or project management are highly desirable and would further strengthen your candidacy for this global leadership role.

Experience

  • Extensive experience (at least 10 years) in a senior communications and marketing role, ideally within a global organization or nonprofit setting. You should have managed large, multidisciplinary teams across different regions and been responsible for strategic decision-making at the global level.

  • Proven experience in integrating communications campaigns that engage diverse global audiences. You should be highly skilled in creating impactful messaging and executing marketing strategies that achieve clear, measurable outcomes.

  • In-depth knowledge of global human rights issues and the ability to tailor communications strategies to address these issues in meaningful ways. Familiarity with international political dynamics and the challenges faced by human rights activists is crucial.

  • Strong experience in managing a multi-channel communications strategy, including digital platforms (web, social media, email campaigns) and traditional media. You should have a metrics-driven approach to evaluating campaign success and making data-informed decisions.

  • Creative leadership in branding and identity-building for a global nonprofit or advocacy organization. You will have experience leading innovative content development, including visual storytelling and multimedia assets.

  • Excellent communication skills: You should be an outstanding communicator, both in writing and orally, with a proven ability to convey complex ideas simply and compellingly to global audiences.

  • Proven ability to work in matrix-managed environments, working with colleagues across different departments, regions, and functions. Experience in budget management and operational planning is also essential.
