ABSA, one of South Africa’s leading financial services providers, has officially opened applications for its Graduate Internship Programme 2025, inviting unemployed South African graduates to take part in a structured, 10-month leadership development journey.

The programme is designed to shape the next generation of professionals through strategic mentoring, exposure to African regional operations, and real-world business challenges. ABSA’s initiative, known as GenA, integrates innovation, personal development, and social impact through a comprehensive experience that combines leadership training with practical exposure to the banking and financial services sector.

Tasks

Selected candidates will be expected to engage in a wide range of developmental and work-based activities, including:

• A 10-month leadership development programme covering:

  • Personal leadership and branding

  • Design thinking and innovation

  • Digital agility and disruption

  • Strategic and analytical problem-solving

• Exposure to ABSA’s regional offices across Africa

• Participation in ABSA Force for Good (CSI) initiatives

• Ongoing coaching and mentoring by line managers, GenA alumni, and corporate educators

• Engagement in Action Learning Projects to solve real business problems

• Collaboration with a diverse graduate cohort in team-based challenges

This hands-on internship equips interns with both technical and behavioural competencies, preparing them for long-term success at ABSA or within the broader industry.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Depending on the programme, applicants must hold (or be completing) an Honours degree or equivalent qualification in one or more of the following fields:

1. GenA Investment Banking – Graduate Programme:

• Engineering (Aero, Chemical, Civil, Electrical & Electronic, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Mining)
