Background & Job Description

The African Union Internship Program 2025 is a prestigious and inclusive platform offering early-career professionals a chance to gain hands-on experience within the African Union. Open to applicants from all 55 AU Member States, the program provides a valuable opportunity to work in various departments and directorates at the AU Headquarters and across its organs.

The internship aims to provide practical exposure to the internal operations of the AU, boost participants’ career development, and offer interns a front-row seat to pan-African diplomacy, governance, and development strategies. Participants will work in a multicultural environment, helping implement impactful programs, policies, and projects.

This is a full-time internship designed to support the professional growth of African youth, while also enhancing the AU’s capacity with young, innovative thinkers.

Tasks

Depending on their assigned department, interns will be responsible for:

Providing technical, administrative, and research support to AU departments
Assisting in planning, implementation, and monitoring of AU projects and programs
Drafting reports, briefings, and meeting notes
Supporting communication and coordination efforts between AU organs and partners
Participating in workshops, team meetings, and strategic planning sessions
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervising officer

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

Be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program
Hold a Bachelor’s degree or an advanced/postgraduate (Master’s) degree in a relevant field

Experience

No prior work experience is required
Applicants must be:
- Citizens of African Union Member States
- Aged 32 years or younger at the time of selection
- Fluent in at least one AU working language: English, French, Arabic, or Portuguese
- Of high moral integrity, with no serious criminal convictions
