The current vacancy for a Child Protection Officer is based in Port Sudan and offers a full-time, one-year contract under the guidance of a Project Coordinator. The position plays a pivotal role in identifying and supporting children at risk, managing protection cases, and building community-based protection systems.
Tasks
Case Management Duties

Identify children at risk and ensure they receive tailored support through standardized case management tools.

Supervise social and case workers handling cases, including family visits and follow-ups.

Conduct weekly case management reviews to track case progress and refine processes.

Ensure timely and ethical management of child protection files and databases (including CPIMS+).

Monitor the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Safe Spaces (AGSS), focusing on gender-based violence (GBV), psychosocial support (PSS), and empowerment programs.
Community Engagement and Psychosocial Support

Facilitate child-friendly spaces (CFS), life skills training, and parenting sessions with local facilitators.

Strengthen and train Community-Based Child Protection Mechanisms (CBCPMs).

Lead awareness campaigns on child rights and protection issues in target communities.

Support data collection through focus group discussions and community feedback mechanisms.
Coordination and Referral

Actively participate in local child protection networks, including the Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR).

Build referral pathways between Plan’s internal services and external agencies (health, legal aid, education).

Coordinate with government partners such as State Social Welfare to support family tracing and reunification efforts.

Work with Plan’s internal sectors (education, livelihoods) to ensure holistic child support.
Reporting and Documentation

Prepare monthly reports with disaggregated data (by age and gender).

Submit case updates and trend analysis to supervisors and technical coordinators.

Flag and escalate complex or urgent protection issues.
Operational Support

Contribute to procurement planning for protection materials and services.

Adhere to Plan International’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
-
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Social Work, Psychology, or relevant Social Sciences.

Additional certifications in Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE), case management, or safeguarding are an asset.
Experience
-
At least 3–4 years of professional experience in humanitarian child protection programs.

Practical knowledge of case management systems, including ethical documentation and information sharing.

Experience conducting community-based child protection or PSS activities in crisis settings.

Background in training and supervising local staff or volunteers.

Previous work in Sudan or similar conflict-affected regions is strongly preferred.
Skills

Strong communication skills in English and Arabic (written and spoken).

Excellent planning, negotiation, and team coordination abilities.

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and CP information systems (e.g., CPIMS+).
