The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) offers a comprehensive methodology for governments to review policy contexts, measure biodiversity expenditure, calculate future financial needs, and design strategic finance solutions. Supported by several governments and the European Union, BIOFIN is integral to UNDP’s Nature Hub, focusing on implementing finance solutions across 41 countries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The BIOFIN Technical Research Analyst will enhance the Finance Source Database (FIRE) and support the GLOBE BIOFIN Expenditure Taxonomy. Key responsibilities include:
- Finance Source Database (FIRE):
- Maintain and update the finance sources.
- Ensure quality assurance and enhance user experience.
- Train global and national BIOFIN teams.
- Coordinate with donors and partners.
- Organize advisory board meetings.
- Collect additional data through questionnaires.
- Support communication initiatives (newsletters, web articles, podcasts, social media).
- Collect feedback and update the platform.
- Organize webinars and workshops.
- Assist civil society actors in accessing FIRE database sources.
- Monitor and report on activity progress.
- Global Taxonomy for Biodiversity Expenditures (GLOBE):
- Conduct research to support the design of GLOBE.
- Develop and test biodiversity attribution rates.
- Organize and document expert meetings.
- Prepare guidance documents.
- Support countries in applying the Taxonomy.

Institutional Arrangement:
The incumbent reports to the BIOFIN Associate Global Coordinator, working with global and national teams, UNDP Country Offices, governments, international organizations, and contractors. Flexibility in availability is required for global consultations. The incumbent must provide their own working station and have access to reliable internet.

Required Skills and Experience:
- Education:
- Master’s degree in relevant fields (Economics, Environmental Economics, Public Administration, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree with an additional two years of experience will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
- Experience:
- Up to 2 years (with Master’s) or a minimum of 2 years (with Bachelor’s) in relevant fields.
- Languages:
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Experience with large databases and analysis.
- Experience engaging with multinational stakeholders.
- Experience drafting donor reports and using database systems like MS Access.
