The Role of the Executive Management Intern
The Executive Management Internship offers an unparalleled opportunity for individuals to gain firsthand experience in a leading international organization dedicated to childrenโs welfare. As an intern in the Programme Strategy and Coordination Hub, you will be deeply involved in supporting the day-to-day functions of the Programme Group Directorโs Office. This role will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of UNICEF’s operational framework, strategic objectives, and the impact of its programs worldwide.
Your work will encompass a wide range of tasks, including research, communication, media creation, event management, and administrative support. You will be part of a dynamic team, contributing to essential projects and initiatives that advance UNICEFโs mission and enhance its global presence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research and Analysis:
- Emerging Topics Research:
- Conduct detailed research on emerging topics relevant to international development, such as the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in humanitarian efforts, advancements in global health, and innovations in education and child protection. This research will help inform strategic decisions and contribute to the development of thought leadership pieces.
- Analyze trends, data, and case studies to provide insights into how these emerging topics can impact UNICEFโs work and shape its future strategies.
- Best Practices for Social Media:
- Investigate and identify best practices for leveraging social media platforms to enhance UNICEFโs thought leadership and global visibility. This includes analyzing successful profiles and agencies, understanding audience engagement strategies, and applying these insights to UNICEFโs communications efforts.
- Assist in the development and implementation of social media campaigns to increase engagement and reach among UNICEFโs stakeholders and supporters.
- Content Creation:
- Draft and edit LinkedIn posts and other social media content to promote UNICEFโs initiatives, share updates, and engage with a global audience.
- Write a concise and impactful blog (up to 800 words) on a relevant topic related to international development. Ensure the blog is well-formatted, visually appealing, and aligned with UNICEFโs branding and messaging.
2. Communication and Media:
- Visual Design:
- Perform formatting and design tasks to ensure that communications materials, reports, and presentations are visually appealing and adhere to UNICEFโs style guidelines.
- Create engaging visuals, including GIFs and images, to support and enhance content on LinkedIn and other social media platforms. Utilize design tools to produce high-quality media assets that capture attention and convey key messages effectively.
- Media and Engagement Tools:
- Support the creation and utilization of media and engagement tools to connect with UNICEF staff and stakeholders. This includes developing materials for internal events such as All Staff Meetings, team briefings, and organizational announcements.
- Assist in the development of strategies to engage staff and promote internal communications, fostering a sense of connection and collaboration within the organization.
3. Event Management:
- Event Coordination:
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of key events, including meetings, workshops, and conferences. This involves managing logistical arrangements, preparing materials, and ensuring that events run smoothly.
- Support the Directorโs Office in organizing events that align with UNICEFโs strategic objectives, including high-level meetings with partners, donors, and other stakeholders.
- Logistical Support:
- Provide logistical support for event preparations, including coordinating with vendors, arranging travel and accommodations for participants, and managing on-site logistics.
- Ensure that all event-related activities are executed according to schedule and meet the standards of professionalism expected by UNICEF.
4. Administrative Support:
- Process Optimization:
- Optimize administrative processes within the Programme Group Directorโs Office to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. This includes streamlining workflow, improving documentation practices, and implementing best practices for administrative tasks.
- Assist in the development of administrative procedures and tools to support the smooth functioning of the office.
- General Administrative Tasks:
- Provide general administrative support, including scheduling meetings, managing communications, preparing reports, and handling correspondence.
- Assist in maintaining records, managing office supplies, and coordinating with other departments to ensure that the Directorโs Office operates efficiently.
5. Collaborative Work:

- Team Participation:
- Actively participate in team meetings, contributing ideas and feedback to enhance the operations and impact of the Programme Group.
- Collaborate with colleagues across divisions and regional offices to support UNICEFโs strategic goals and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
- Project Ownership:
- Take ownership of assigned projects, demonstrating initiative and creativity in problem-solving. Propose improvements and innovations to enhance the effectiveness of the Directorโs Office and contribute to the success of UNICEFโs programs.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Executive Management Internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate degree program in Economics, Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Business, or a related field. Recent graduates are eligible if their degree was completed within the past two years.
- Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Language: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in another UN language is an asset.
- Family Relations: No immediate relatives (e.g., parents, siblings) working in any UNICEF office or in a line of authority to which the intern will report.
