Background & Job Description
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is seeking a Programme Assistant (G-6 level) for its Mitigation Division, specifically within the NDCs/LT-LED, Impacts Assessment Support Subdivision in Bonn, Germany. This role helps Parties with implementation, communication, and tracking of NDCs as well as supporting response measures under the Paris Agreement.
The position is fixed for one year and six months, with possibility of extension. The job involves administrative and secretarial support, coordination of technical and procedural tasks, and contributing to capacity-building and meetings that further the UN’s climate goals.
Tasks
The Programme Assistant will be responsible for:

Supporting technical mandates from the Response Measures Forum, Katowice Committee of Experts on Impacts of Response Measures (KCI), and governing bodies.

Tracking mandates, timelines, and workplans (COP/CMP/CMA, RM Forum, KCI), maintaining databases and ensuring deadlines are met.

Preparing inputs for meetings, negotiations, including formatting, compiling, and managing documents.

Coordinating communication among team members; maintaining stakeholder lists and circulation of relevant materials.

Assisting in planning and implementation of capacity-building programs (workshops, webinars, events).

Handling logistical and administrative arrangements for meetings and events (invitations, document preparation, travel assistance).

Suggesting and implementing procedural improvements (e.g. streamlining workflows, improving monitoring/tracking of tasks).

Qualifications (Education and Certification, Experience)
Education / Certification:

Required: Completed secondary education or its equivalent.

Asset: Formal secretarial or related training.
Experience:

Required: At least seven (7) years of relevant administrative/secretarial work.

If candidate holds a first-level university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), the requirement lowers to five (5) years.

Experience working in an international organization is preferable.

Supporting a manager of a division or subdivision is an asset.
Language / Skills:

Fluency in English (oral & written) is required.

Working knowledge of German is desirable; knowledge of another UN language is also a plus.

Strong skills with office technologies (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet & email. Use of SharePoint or similar collaboration tools is highly desirable.

Ability to work independently, manage priorities under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and liaise with internal & external stakeholders.
