Background & Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the leading UN agency working across 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty, strengthen democratic governance, uphold the rule of law, and build inclusive institutions. In today’s rapidly evolving world, digital transformation is one of the most powerful forces shaping economies, societies, and governance. Since 2019, UNDP has been at the forefront of harnessing digital technologies for sustainable development. The launch of the UNDP Digital Strategy 2022–2025 marks a new phase in this journey, with a clear vision to make digital an empowering force for people and the planet.
To achieve this vision, UNDP established the Chief Digital Office (CDO), which leads efforts to:

Support governments in building inclusive digital ecosystems.

Transform internal UNDP operations to adapt to the digital era.
As part of this mission, UNDP is launching the Digital Transformation Internship 2025 – Global Call (Home Based). This internship offers passionate students and recent graduates the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge work in digital ecosystems, AI, data governance, product design, strategic partnerships, and innovation.
The internship is highly flexible and home-based, allowing participants to engage from anywhere in the world. Interns will be matched to workstreams aligned with their interests and skills, ranging from inclusive digital ecosystems to digital strategy implementation and AI-driven product development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interns will support one or more of the following workstreams:
1. Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems

Support research and analysis on topics such as digital inclusion, AI ethics, and data governance.

Contribute to projects that enhance inclusive connectivity and access to digital infrastructure.

Help shape frameworks for digital public goods and engage communities in innovation and safeguards.
-
Assist with knowledge management, ensuring digital insights are collected and shared across UNDP.
-
Draft content for blogs, social media posts, talking points, and briefing notes to support advocacy efforts.
2. Country Office Support & Capacity Building
-
Contribute to national digital strategies on AI, data governance, and capacity building.
-
Support project management for digital initiatives in UNDP Country Offices.

Develop and update capacity building resources for governments.
-
Assist in initiatives related to AI trust and safety, green computing, multilingualism in AI, and more.
-
Support digital-skills training programmes for UNDP staff.
3. UNDP Digital Strategy Development & Implementation
-
Conduct research on emerging digital trends to inform UNDP’s global positioning.
-
Assist with the digital guides platform, ensuring resources are accessible and up to date.
-
Analyze progress reports and data to improve digital strategy implementation.
-
Provide support to the Chief Digital Officer, including drafting speeches, briefs, and event content.
4. Business Operations & Internal Processes
-
Assist in operations, procurement, finance, and people operations within the CDO.
-
Monitor and report on progress of resource plans.
-
Support in organizing events, workshops, and travel logistics.
-
Identify and propose solutions to inefficiencies in operations.
5. Thought Leadership, Engagement & Partnerships
-
Research and map potential partners in the tech, nonprofit, and foundation sectors.
-
Draft concept notes, proposals, partnership agreements, and outreach materials.
-
Support UNDP’s participation in multilateral forums, global summits, and UN interagency processes.
-
Produce content for newsletters, blogs, and social media channels.
6. Product Design, Build, and Management (AI & Digital Tools)
-
Collaborate with product teams to design apps, AI tools, and digital platforms.
-
Conduct user testing, quality checks, and iterative improvements.
-
Support proposal writing for new digital products and solutions.
-
Assist in the implementation of digital tools in country contexts.
7. Change Management & UNDP Transformation
-
Support communities of practice and knowledge exchange within UNDP.
-
Assist in internal communications, reports, and knowledge databases.
-
Contribute to initiatives aimed at integrating digital across UNDP programmes.

Qualifications
Education & Certification
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
-
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s or equivalent).
-
Be in the final year of an undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s level).
-
Have recently graduated from a university programme (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or higher), provided the internship starts within one year of graduation.

Stipend: Eligible interns may receive a monthly stipend, depending on duty station and arrangement.
