In line with the IFC 3.0 strategy, which prioritizes investment creation in low-income and fragile states, the Eastern and Southern Africa Region’s Country Advisory and Economics (CAEAE) team is looking to hire an Operations Officer based in Nairobi, Kenya. This position plays a critical role in diagnosing market challenges, facilitating country-level strategic engagements, and supporting reforms that unlock private sector growth.
The Operations Officer will report directly to the Country Advisory & Economics Manager for Eastern & Southern Africa, collaborating closely with industry teams, upstream teams, government stakeholders, and the wider World Bank Group (WBG).
Tasks
The selected candidate will:

Support project development aligned with market needs and IFC’s investment strategy.

Facilitate implementation of reforms through high-level client engagement, focusing on enabling private sector growth.

Attend senior-level policy dialogues and advisory meetings, offering technical guidance.

Oversee project deliverables, ensuring quality supervision, progress tracking, and policy reform monitoring.

Coordinate with Upstream teams and World Bank counterparts to create enabling conditions for investment.

Assist in managing IFC’s advisory portfolio in Kenya and possibly other countries in Eastern Africa.

Help strengthen IFC’s visibility by engaging government officials, private sector leaders, and development partners.

Contribute to diagnostics and knowledge products such as CPSDs, SCDs, and CCDRs.

Support internal knowledge sharing sessions and policy-focused research initiatives.

Aid in resource planning and project implementation oversight.

Qualifications
Education and Certification

Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Economics, Public Policy, International Development, Business, or a related field.
Experience
-
Strong experience (typically 8+ years) in economic development, private sector reform, investment promotion, or advisory services.

Proven ability to engage with senior government officials, private sector executives, and development institutions.

Strong familiarity with IFC’s strategy and World Bank Group products, including Country Diagnostics and Advisory frameworks.

Experience working in multi-country portfolios across Eastern or Sub-Saharan Africa is highly desirable.

Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
