and:

♻️ CARBON REMOVAL

in African contexts.

The programme brings together researchers from different disciplines so they can examine enhanced weathering from both:

SCIENTIFIC

and:

SOCIAL / ECONOMIC

perspectives.

πŸͺ¨ What Is Enhanced Weathering?

Enhanced weathering is an emerging area of climate research involving the acceleration of natural rock-weathering processes that can potentially:

REMOVE CARBON DIOXIDE FROM THE ATMOSPHERE

while interacting with:

SOILS

AGRICULTURE

and:

MINERAL SYSTEMS.

The EWAP fellowship does not treat the subject only as a carbon-removal technology.

Instead, the programme also examines questions involving:

AGRONOMY

MONITORING & VERIFICATION

LOGISTICS

SUSTAINABILITY

POLICY

FINANCE

and:

RESPONSIBLE IMPLEMENTATION.

πŸ‘₯ How Many Fellows Will Be Selected?

The Founding Cohort will include:

UP TO 10 EMERGING RESEARCHERS.

This makes the programme relatively selective and allows fellows to participate in:

SMALL-GROUP LEARNING

MENTORING

FEEDBACK

and:

PEER COLLABORATION.

πŸŽ“ Who Can Apply?

EWAP welcomes Expressions of Interest from:

πŸŽ“ FINAL-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

πŸ“š MASTER’S STUDENTS

πŸ”¬ PhD CANDIDATES

and:

πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬ EARLY-CAREER RESEARCHERS.

The programme is:

Applicants do not need to come from one single scientific field.

🌿 Eligible and Relevant Research Areas

EWAP specifically welcomes applicants working across areas including:

🌍 Environmental & Climate Science

Relevant candidates may be working in:

CLIMATE SCIENCE

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

CARBON REMOVAL

or related fields.

🌾 Agriculture

The programme is highly relevant to researchers interested in:

AGRONOMY

AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS

FARM PRODUCTIVITY

and:

SOIL–CROP INTERACTIONS.

πŸ§ͺ Soil Science

Soil science is particularly important because enhanced weathering interacts directly with:

SOIL CHEMISTRY

NUTRIENTS

MINERAL REACTIONS

and:

AGRICULTURAL PERFORMANCE.

πŸͺ¨ Geochemistry

🌍 Do You Have to Be Based in Africa?

The current official programme page centres the fellowship on research relevant to:

AFRICAN CONTEXTS.

Earlier EWAP programme announcements also described the initiative as being designed particularly for African students, emerging professionals and early-career researchers, including those:

BASED WITHIN AFRICA

and:

BASED INTERNATIONALLY.

This means being physically located outside Africa should not automatically make an African researcher irrelevant to the programme.

Applicants should still demonstrate a clear connection between their interests and:

ENHANCED WEATHERING IN AFRICA.

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό Can Zimbabwean Researchers Apply?

Potentially, yes.

A Zimbabwean applicant could be relevant if they are:

βœ… A final-year undergraduate student

βœ… A Master’s student

βœ… A PhD candidate

or:

βœ… An early-career researcher

and their academic or professional interests can contribute to:

ENHANCED WEATHERING

CLIMATE

AGRICULTURE

SOILS

CARBON REMOVAL

POLICY

or another relevant African research area.

Zimbabwe’s strong connections with:

AGRICULTURE

SOIL SCIENCE

MINING

CLIMATE ADAPTATION

and:
