Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will serve as Head of Mission for Research and Development and lead UNESCO MGIEP’s research agenda.
Key responsibilities include:
Research Leadership
- Lead interdisciplinary research projects
- Develop science-based education programmes
- Advance research on peace, wellbeing, and sustainability
- Promote social and emotional learning (SEL) initiatives
Programme Development
- Design innovative educational programmes
- Develop digital pedagogies
- Support implementation of SDG 4.7 initiatives
- Build evidence-based learning systems
Strategic Partnerships
- Collaborate with UNESCO entities
- Build partnerships with universities and research institutes
- Strengthen relationships with governments and education networks
- Develop international research collaborations
Policy and Advocacy
- Translate research into policy recommendations
- Produce policy briefs and technical reports
- Support evidence-based educational reforms
- Strengthen science-to-policy linkages
Organizational Leadership
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the selected candidate will contribute to:

Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in:
- Education
- Learning Sciences
- Social Sciences
- Education Policy
- Related disciplines
Experience
At least:
Seven (7) Years of Relevant Experience
in areas such as:
- Education policy research
- Sustainability
- Research programme management
- Learning and assessment systems
- Educational innovation
- Research leadership
Candidates should also demonstrate:
- Experience leading multidisciplinary research teams
- Strong publication records
- Experience managing research programmes
- Social and Emotional Learning expertise
- Fundraising and partnership-building experience
Preferred Qualifications
UNESCO considers the following highly desirable:
PhD Degree
in a relevant education-related field.
