About the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI)
The Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) is a partnership between Central African countries and international donors that aims to protect the Congo Basin rainforest while promoting sustainable development and reducing poverty. The initiative supports national REDD+ and Low Emissions Development (LED) investment frameworks that address deforestation, forest degradation, and climate change. The CAFI Trust Fund serves as the principal financing mechanism for these efforts.
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist will play a central role in enhancing CAFI’s visibility and strategic communications by:
Content Creation
- Producing engaging content for the CAFI website, social media platforms, and digital campaigns.
- Creating multimedia products including stories, videos, graphics, presentations, and articles.
- Managing daily social media publishing and audience engagement.
- Identifying compelling success stories from CAFI-funded programmes.
- Building relationships with partners to maximize communication reach and visibility.
- Applying innovative digital communication and graphic design approaches.
Communications and Quality Assurance
The successful candidate will also:
- Produce high-quality communication materials for print, digital, and audiovisual platforms.
- Draft Terms of Reference for external communication firms.
- Review and quality-check communication products.
- Ensure all materials comply with CAFI branding and editorial standards.
- Develop brochures, infographics, reports, presentations, posters, and promotional materials.
- Manage a central repository of communication assets and publications.
Media Relations
Responsibilities include:
- Drafting press releases, factsheets, talking points, and scripts.
- Supporting media engagement during major events.
- Coordinating interviews and media outreach.
- Supporting field visits for journalists and photographers.
- Managing communication consultants and ensuring quality of their outputs.
- Promoting CAFI’s achievements through strategic media engagement.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field with at least seven years of relevant experience; or
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least nine years of relevant experience.
Required Experience
Candidates should demonstrate experience in:
- Strategic communications.
- Content creation and graphic design.
- Media relations.
- Social media management.
- Producing multimedia communication products.
- Translating technical or scientific information into accessible content.
- Using communication and design tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, Figma, or similar platforms.
- Working independently and under tight deadlines.
- Climate change, rural development, and the Central African context.
Language Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Excellent written and spoken English.
