Duties and Responsibilities

As a Communication Intern at the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), you will gain hands-on experience in public information and communication activities within an international setting. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Content Creation and Management

  • Social Media: Assist in managing UNECE’s social media accounts, including drafting posts, creating multimedia content, and monitoring engagement. This involves staying up-to-date with social media trends and best practices to effectively engage the target audience.
  • Website Updates: Support the maintenance and update of the UNECE website, ensuring that content is current, accurate, and engaging. This includes uploading new content, editing existing pages, and ensuring consistency across the site.
  • Newsletters: Assist in the production of newsletters and other communication materials. This includes drafting articles, editing content, and coordinating the dissemination of newsletters to stakeholders.

2. Event Support

  • Event Coordination: Assist in organizing and promoting UNECE events, conferences, and webinars. This includes logistical support, coordinating with speakers and participants, and promoting events through various communication channels.
  • Media Relations: Support media outreach efforts, including drafting press releases, coordinating media coverage, and maintaining media contact lists. This involves building relationships with journalists and media outlets to ensure effective coverage of UNECE activities.

3. Research and Analysis

  • Content Research: Conduct research on various topics related to UNECE’s work to support the development of communication materials. This includes gathering information, fact-checking, and providing background research for articles and reports.
  • Analytics: Monitor and analyze the performance of communication activities, including website traffic, social media engagement, and media coverage. Provide reports and recommendations for improving communication strategies based on data insights.

4. Administrative Support

  • Documentation: Assist with the preparation and management of documentation, including meeting minutes, reports, and correspondence. Ensure that all documents are properly filed and easily accessible.
  • General Support: Provide general administrative support to the Communication Unit, including scheduling meetings, coordinating travel arrangements, and managing communication calendars.

Qualifications/Special Skills

To be considered for this internship, candidates must possess the following qualifications and skills:

Educational Background:

  • Currently Enrolled: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field. Recent graduates (within one year of graduation) may also be considered.

Experience:

  • Communication Experience: Prior experience in communications, public information, journalism, or a related field is desirable. This could include internships, volunteer work, or part-time jobs.
  • Digital Skills: Proficiency in using social media platforms, content management systems (CMS), and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.

Technical Skills:
